We’ve got some brilliant projects within our partners and want to tell you more about the founders and teams behind them. Regularly, you can learn more about specific projects through our interviews and post any questions you may have further down in the comments section.
In today’s interview, we spoke with Zed, CEO of CowCow.
Hello Zed, thank you for your time. It’s a pleasure to discuss your project with you! First, can you please tell us more about yourself and your background?
To begin with, I’m 22 and I fell in love with NFTs when I was 20. I guess designing went well with my passion for design and art, as I attended various courses in this direction. But once I got into the NFT space, it was like finding my true passion. I then started grinding my way around, joining various communities, DAOs, or even having various roles in teams like community leader, community manager, moderator, or collaboration manager. These were the first steps that helped me learn more about NFTs.
Can you tell us more about Cow Cow and what inspired the team to start it?
I originally played around with ETH and SOLANA, and I was most impressed with IP (Intellectual Property) NFT projects - especially the ones with cool art and those that were community-centric. When I say IP NFT projects, I refer to the ones focused on creating a brand and gathering a community around it. Some examples would be BAYC, Azuki, DeGods, Okay Bears, Degen Ape Academy, and others. After seeing these, I got the wish to create a project based on my thoughts and vision, but I knew it was not an easy task. The first thing that I had to do was to find the right team. After that, step by step, we started drawing the concept and aligned our vision regarding a project. That’s how we got to give life to Cow Cow, after working for around six months before it went public. Cow Cow is designed exactly how I imagined it: an IP NFT Project built around the community, with a clear vision of becoming a community-owned brand. Good vibes, top-notch art and branding, all for the community.
Before your mint, you recruited members to join your Scowlarship program. Can you explain to us what it is and the role of Scowlarship’s members?
Scowlarship was a concept we brought on MultiversX to test the audience of the chain. Besides having it as proof of work, and deploying a live product before our mint with a world-class UX and UI, we also learned a lot about the audience on MultiversX. Basically, through the Scowlarship one could apply to get a whitelist for our mint, by connecting wallet and Twitter and responding to some simple questions. The selection of Scowlarship members was made manually by the team, one by one, based on the applications: one of the steps had questions, and we chose the best answers.
These answers and the entire behavior gave us valuable insights about the MultiversX community, which was to become our family:
- Even the whitelisted ones wanted their name mentioned on Twitter, which meant everybody wanted to be involved.
- People are quite new on Twitter and Discord, which means we need to educate them.
- Answers were quite complex, which meant everybody really wanted to be chosen
- The understanding of our project was quite low, which made us send clearer messages.
We learned a lot and we proved our knowledge and tech skills, and people enjoyed. That was a Big Win.
Please expand a bit on what “The City” & the “Urban Plan” are. Is there any Alpha you can share with our audience?
In short: The City is our world in Web3, and it's full of good vibes. Our NFT collection consists of 10,000 cow avatars that grant members access to The City. An exclusive virtual world where The Cowmoonity gathers to build together a decentralized future.
On the other hand, the Urban Plan is our so-called roadmap. Why did we call it that? Because it contains clear elements and directions but also hints about our plans. Very important to mention is that we believe that NFTs evolve very very fast, so there are multiple variable points in our roadmap. If things evolve in a certain direction with the NFT space, it would be a big mistake not to adapt and evolve. We somehow believe that it is important for NFT projects to have a direction and a roadmap but also to have the freedom to create new things when required.
In regards to the alpha, hmm, the train is arriving at the station very soon. Are you going to vibe with us?
After your mint, the community launched several SUB-DAOs. Can you tell us more about them and how they work?
Despite everybody using the word DAO, we believe it’s very hard to achieve the status of a real DAO. We’re making small steps, and the SUB DAOs are one of them.
SubDAOs are smaller parts of The Cowmoonity, grouped usually by specific traits from the art of cows. We have Sombrero DAO, Naked DAO, Milk Bottle DAO, and Triumvirate DAO (which was built for more attributes like gold, robot, and manifesto), …
The whole idea with subDAOs is to group the holders that have similar visions into smaller groups, easier to organize, and easier to manage.
The next step is to have a leader for each of these groups, the leader being voted by the communities and responsible for carrying the feedback to the main team. These holders are the community leaders, representing the buffer between the team and the community. But it doesn’t end here: these leaders will also automatically become representatives of their subDAO in the future Cow Cow DAO DAO and they will be involved automatically in decision-making regarding the project trajectory in the future.
We’re also trying to budget the subDAOs initiatives, educate them in regards to what can be achieved, and support them in any other way. In the end, the subDAOs are pillars of the project and, most important, parts of The Cowmoonity.
You already partnered up with big MultiversX players, such as BH Network. Are you planning to have more partnerships in the ecosystem, or is the plan to build cross-chain partnerships?
It was a pleasure working with BH Network and we want to thank them again for their involvement. Super nice guys! We’re exploring all types of partnerships, with people from the ecosystem, but also cross-chain. We are trying to find those partners with the same vision as ours and build together.
What are your short-term and long-term goals? What can the Cow Cow community expect from you?
In the short term, we’re still working a lot with the community: either speaking about education or in regards to the vision, we’re spending lots of time together trying to understand what fits better to the community. We’re actively implementing the feedback as we are getting it. Of course, there are several elements being worked on right now from the Urban Plan. We’re building a branding toolkit that’s going to help us educate the community in regards to IP rights, we’re also building a merch shop, and we will continue delivering on the storyline and I can name many more things. But the main thing we are working on is becoming one with the community. This is our short-term goal, and once achieved, we are going to get far together.
Long-term goal? Together with the community making Cow Cow a world-renowned Web3 brand. I’m confident that we can make Cow Cow a household brand to be known everywhere around the globe.
Thank you for your time Zed and all the interesting insight! Anything else you want to add?
Thank you too and also to our cowmoonity for the huge trust and support since the beginning of our journey. We are so so so early and I see a bright future for MultiversX NFTs.
